8.5 Axle Diameter

Need a little more help with this 8.5.

Replacing the seals and need the diameter of the axles.

Have a pair of National 8680S seals that have a ID of 1.399.

I don't know what that 8680 seal fits, didn't show anything on RockAuto search.

The GN 8.5 axle uses the same seal and bearing as the 7.5 axle.

Wow, always though the axles were a larger diameter on 8.5's. Thinking that, thought that the number that Rockauto listed would only work on a 7.5. At any rate National 2043 is a bad number for this application. Have a pair of them and their ID is over 1.900 in.

A little rusty on the differences between the two rears, aside from the ring gear diameter. Anyway, I have National 8660S seals installed and seem to work fine.

The # on the old seals was 554631 and could not gat a cross reference to a National or SKT or whatever the other brand is called.

All chevy car c-clip axles are 8660S 1.40 diameter axles. 12 bolt chevy 10 bolt 8.2 10 bolt 8.5 10 bolt 7.5

Impala had a full size car 8835S 1.618 axle shaft diameter same as the early trucks.

The bearing is a 5707 bearing torrentington

oh and the 2043 is the PINION SEAL for an 8.5

Pinion seal for the 7.5 is 8610 or 8611

Thanks for clarifying the seal issue, monzaz.

Suspected that the 2043 number was the pinion seal.

Rockauto shows it as an axle seal.
