Yes, they're for collecting metallic particles. The factory Mags are round & fit the dent/dimple in the Pan. They are not glued in unless you have an Aluminum Pan, just stuck to the bottom of the stock steel pan.

Was there a lot of clutch material in the bottom of the pan? Any shiny metal?

Nope, nothing shiny there. There was some very thick gunk, but no metallic particles from what I could see.

Sounds like the Direct clutch frictions are smoked. Overhaul time.
